Bionic – Featured Artist Interview WDSR Radio
WDSR Radio: Welcome Bionic! It’s a pleasure to interview you. So you’re from London, England and started out in the music business at a very young age huh?
Bionic: It’s always a pleasure! Yes, I fell in love with music whilst following my mum to choir practice because we were so young to stay home alone. Blessing in disguise.
WDSR Radio: Bionic is a very unique name for an artist of your nature. So tell us about the stage name Bionic. – I was given this name years ago by a presenter from a radio station.
Bionic: I was given this name years ago by a presenter from a radio station. I would wait outside the radio station, in hope that I will catch one of the radio presenters and plug my music. Months passed and no luck, then one day my luck paid off and caught one of the presenters on break. He knew who I was and said I’m bionic and not human. – An interesting compliment
WDSR Radio: When you started getting involved with making digital beats was it Frooty Loops or FL Studio at the time? Did you find it to be an easy DAW to maneuver?
Bionic: Yes, I started on fl studio and Reason. However, I shortly moved to logic, which inspired me to create better music.
WDSR Radio: It seems that you’ve had some greats inspiring you to remain involved with music but opening for headliners such as Jason Derulo is quite the accomplishment. How was that experience?
Bionic: Super amazing. Such a surreal experience. Its hard to put it into words but I thank him for the opportunity – I also got to hang out with him for a short while too, Great guy!
WDSR Radio: Headlining The Forum and touring the UK must have been exciting. Do you remember your first experience with touring? Tell us about it.
Bionic: Yes, it was amazing. The great thing about it is knowing that these people are coming out spending their own money to watch you live. Crazy feeling.
WDSR Radio: You mentioned with even having a Masters degree in Popular Music Production you didn’t feel like you were learning enough about music. Can you elaborate on that? What more were you expecting?
Bionic: I believe that educational institutions aren’t up to date with the times. Allowing students to be fully creative whilst embracing the hands-on approach is super important. We currently live in an era where things are moving at a rapid pace. Listen, Education is key and if you get the opportunity to attend university, go – but keep in mind, it does not prepare you for LIFE. There’s a difference between LIFE and whats what. The best form of education is educating yourself, Period.
WDSR Radio: I quote, “I do it in my own style”… If you had to explain your style of music to someone who has never heard it, what would you tell them?
Bionic: My style is a combination of my mood, my surroundings, and personal life experience. I create what I want, it’s hard for me to explain my style because no two tracks sound the same. You just have to listen and make your own judgment.
WDSR Radio: So how many instruments do you play exactly?
Bionic: I can play 4 instruments. Keys – Electric Guitar – Bass Guitar, – Drums

WDSR Radio: Continuing with the last question…. Being able to play multiple instruments must make creating music very easy for you right?
Bionic: Yes, it does. I tell artists/ producers ‘learning an instrument can go a long way’. Knowing a little bit of music theory can inspire you to create new ideas you would never have thought of.
WDSR Radio: Are the music opportunities for independent artists in your area (the UK) as vast as they are for independents in the US?
Bionic: It’s tough for independent artists to break the mold in general. Shout out to Spotify for vouching and supporting independent artists through their platform.
WDSR Radio: What’s a typical studio session like with Bionic? Do you like to create on the fly or you already have a general idea of what’s to happen once you get there?
Bionic: I rather create from scratch in the studio, I believe it allows the artist to bond with the music.
WDSR Radio: So tell us about your EP and collaborating with different artists. Did you have a lot of features on the release?
Bionic: I haven’t picked a name for the EP, once I do you’ll be one of the first to know. My EP has a few collaborations. However, a majority of the records is just me alone. I had to bring the mic out 🙂

WDSR Radio: I already know your influences but if you had to create the ultimate tour with Bionic headlining, what other artists would you choose to open up for Bionic?
Bionic: Diplo, Travis Scott, Pharell Williams, Fabulous, on the line up at the least plus Evian water being the sponsor 🙂
WDSR Radio: Is there anything else about you that we haven’t discussed that we should know?
Bionic: I only drink Evian Water. I’m being serious too.
WDSR Radio: We ask all the artists that we interview, what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?
Bionic: Believe in yourself. Create what you want to create. Don’t waste time because you can’t get it back.
